How can we help?

Answers to the common questions are below. If yours isn't here, email and you'll hear back from a person — usually within a couple of days.

Playing

How do I aim and putt?

Touch anywhere on the course and drag away from where you want the ball to go, like pulling back a putter. The dots show the first stretch of the roll. The farther you pull, the harder the putt. Let go to putt; drag back to the ball to cancel.

The aim dots are gone.

They can be switched off: in the app, open Settings (the gear in the clubhouse) and turn Aim guide back on.

Why did my ball stop after six strokes?

That's the classic putt-putt house rule: six strokes and you pick up. The hole is scored as a 7, so one bad hole never ruins a round.

The ball went in the water.

Water costs one stroke, and the ball goes back to where you hit it from.

Can I stop in the middle of a round?

Yes. Tap the ✕ and choose Pause & Leave. The clubhouse shows your paused round at the top — tap Resume to carry on from your last shot. Holes you've finished are kept. Each player can have one round paused at a time. (The Daily Three is one try, so it can't be paused.)

Can I start a round over?

Yes. Open the scorecard during a round and tap Restart Round, then Restart from Hole 1. Holes you've finished keep their medals, bests and stats; only that round's score isn't saved. To replay just the hole you're on, tap the pause button and choose Restart hole.

What's the translucent ball?

That's your ghost: a replay of your best-ever run on that hole. Beat it to the cup. To hide it, switch off Ghost of your best in Settings.

Courses, medals and the Theme Courses Pack

How do medals work?

Every hole has a medal: bronze for par, silver for under par, gold for a hole in one. Your best medal on each hole is kept, and shows under that hole in the clubhouse.

What's free, and what does the Theme Courses Pack add?

The Classic Courses and the Daily Three are free, with no ads. The Theme Courses Pack is one purchase that adds the Theme Courses, yours for good.

How do I open the Theme Courses?

With the Theme Courses Pack, Theme Courses open as your medal count grows: Frost Hollow at 10 medals, Boardwalk at 14, Speedway at 18, Tulip Fields at 24, Lake Country at 30, Highlands at 36, Inferno at 42, Dunes at 48, Crystal Caverns at 54, Castle at 60, Pirate Cove at 66, Toy Room at 72, Space Station at 80, Jungle Temple at 100, Bowling Alley at 110 and Seaside Cliffs at 120. Medals from any course count, and replaying holes to improve them is the quickest way. The Classic Courses open in order: Lakeside when you finish Meadow, Village Green when you finish Lakeside, Maple Grove when you finish Village Green, Orchard Hill when you finish Maple Grove, and Harvest Farm when you finish Orchard Hill.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Settings and tap Restore Purchase, signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with. Your Theme Courses come right back.

Can I practice one hole?

Yes — Practice a Hole in the clubhouse lets you play any hole you've opened, as often as you like. You can also tap any hole on a course's card in Play a Round. Medals you earn there count.

Scorecards, stats and achievements

Can I see my best rounds?

Yes. Your best round on each course keeps its whole scorecard. In Stats, tap a best round to see every hole and the ball you used, and to share it. Rounds from before Greens 1.4 keep their total; the full card is saved the next time you match or beat it.

Can I share my scorecard?

Yes. At the end of any round, tap Share scorecard (for the Daily Three, Share today's card).

I'm already past one of the new achievements.

It's yours the next time you play.

What's the gold star on my ball?

A ball you've played 500 holes with wears a gold star in the ball picker.

The Daily Three

What is the Daily Three?

Three holes chosen fresh each day, the same three for everyone, and free for everyone. You get one scored try. Play on consecutive days to build a streak.

Where do I see my Daily Three scores?

In Stats: this week's scores, your streak, your best round all time and your average for the month. Tap the best round for its card, or the month's average for every card behind it. Ace all three holes of a Daily Three and you earn Perfect Daily.

When does it change?

At midnight UTC — the same moment everywhere, and the same day as its Game Center leaderboard, so everyone plays the same three holes and every score lands on the right board. In the US that's the evening: 8 PM Eastern and 5 PM Pacific in summer, an hour earlier in winter.

Players and Game Center

Can more than one person play on one iPhone?

Yes. Tap your player badge at the top of the clubhouse and choose Add a Player. Each player has their own medals, bests, streak, ghosts and paused round, and everyone meets on the House Leaderboard. Tap a player's score there to see their full scorecard for that course or today's Daily Three.

My scores aren't on the leaderboard.

Check you're signed in to Game Center in the iPhone's Settings → Game Center. Greens keeps everything you earn while signed out and sends it the next time you're signed in. Leaderboards can take a few minutes to update. Game Center belongs to the device's Apple Account, so only one player on it sends scores; everyone else's stay on the House Leaderboard.

Greens didn't ask me to sign in.

On purpose — Greens never interrupts a game with Game Center's sign-in. Tap Leaderboards or Achievements in the clubhouse, or Sign in to Game Center in Settings, and it will ask then.

iPhone Duo and iPad

Does it work on iPhone Duo?

Yes, in every pose. Open it flat and the whole hole fills the big screen. Fold it like a book or turn it on its side and the hole is sized to fit. In laptop pose you play on the lower screen, with the buttons, and the upper screen follows the ball. Close it and keep playing on the outer screen.

On iPhone Duo, I can't putt hard enough off the tee.

Greens 1.4 fixed this. In 1.3, a full-power putt on iPhone Duo took a long pull back, and in some poses, with the tee close to the edge of the screen, there wasn't room to pull that far. Now full power takes the same short pull in every pose, each hole leaves room behind the tee, and in laptop pose you aim on the lower screen. Update Greens from the App Store.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes, with every hole sized to fit the bigger screen.

Settings and your data

There's no sound.

Check Sound is on in Greens' Settings, and that your iPhone isn't in silent mode — Greens respects the ring/silent switch and never interrupts music you're playing.

How do I start over?

In Greens, open Settings and tap Reset (your name)'s progress. This erases that player's medals, bests, streak and ghosts, on this device and on any other signed in to your iCloud, and can't be undone. Game Center scores already sent stay with Game Center, and Unlock Greens stays yours.

Will my progress move to a new iPhone?

Yes. Update Greens on your old iPhone and open it once, signed in to iCloud. Then install Greens on the new iPhone, on the same Apple Account, and your progress comes across, usually within a few minutes. An iCloud or computer backup, or iPhone-to-iPhone transfer, brings it across too. Game Center achievements and leaderboard scores follow your Game Center account.

Does my progress sync between my iPhone and iPad?

Yes. If you're signed in to iCloud, your players, medals, bests and streak are kept on the device and in your own iCloud, so they follow you to any iPhone or iPad on that account. There's nothing to sign up for, and Settings shows it under iCloud Sync. Without iCloud, it all stays on the device.

Does Greens collect my data?

No. See the privacy policy.

Email bsrossen@gmail.com with your iPhone or iPad model, iOS version, the Greens version (in Settings, under About), and what happened — the hole number helps a lot. A screenshot or screen recording is even better.
